The Division of Tourism and Transportation of the Tobago House of Assembly has revealed that effective January 31, 2015 there will be a weekly direct flight between Tobago and Sao Paulo Brazil with one stop in Barbados.
Brazil’s largest airline, “GOL,” will provide the service. This decision by the airline to fly to Tobago follows two years of negotiations between the Division and the airline’s management.
The flight will take seven hours which significantly reduces the time that guests take to get from Brazil to Tobago and nationals heading to the South American country. It also comes with a special introductory fare of US $599 return. With the commencement of this flight, it opens up another route between Barbados and Tobago and the fare on that sector of the flight will be US $235 for economy and US $352 for premium economy.
Secretary of Tourism and Transportation Tracy Davidson-Celestine said the flight opens up new opportunities for the Tourism Industry in Tobago. She said, “This is a significant move because it opens up the South American market and Brazil in particular. With strong connections in Argentina, Chile and other South American markets it makes it easier for the growing South American middle class to access Tobago.”
The sharing of the flight with Barbados also provides unique marketing opportunities for Tobago because guests have another option of getting to Tobago via Barbados.
