european waterways shipThis past weekend, European Waterways celebrated the 800th Anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta with a special Thames River excursion for passengers onboard the cruise line’s ship, the Magna Carta.

The cruise featured an exclusive excursion to Salisbury Cathedral to see one of the world’s best-preserved copies of the original Magna Carta, as well as a tour of Runnymede, a Thames riverside village where King James sealed the “Great Charter” 800 years ago. The cruise, running through the end of the month, also includes historic stops at Windsor Castle, the Stanley Spencer Gallery in Cookham, Peter Freebody’s boatyard and more.

The celebration took place on the River Thames and was led by Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II’s royal barge, Gloriana. The procession traveled from the villages of Hurley to Runnymede and gave travelers the opportunity to view the English riverside. On this Monday, June 15, a new statue of the Queen will be revealed to the public in Runnymede that will acknowledge the importance of the Magna Carta’s signing.
