Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, and Alitalia, the leading carrier in Italy, will be offering 35 flights a week between Abu Dhabi and Italy.

This comes after the major airlines signed a codeshare expansion that will allow the Etihad code (EY) to appear on Alitalia’s daily flights between the two countries. The expansion happened soon after the European Commission approved a partnership between the carriers, allowing Etihad to purchase 49 percent of Alitalia.

“Our codeshare agreement with Alitalia was initiated over four years ago, and the partnership has developed into a resounding commercial success,” said president and chief executive officer of Etihad Airways, James Hogan.

Etihad will codeshare a total of four flights daily between Abu Dhabi, Milan and Venice. Flights can be booked starting on November 28, 2014, for next year’s travel dates beginning at the end of March.
