Every hotel within the MGallery Collection is inspired by a story; ancient or contemporary.

Castle Hotel, Windsor began its story as a simple inn dating back to 1528.

In the mid 1600’s it became, ‘The Mermaid Inn’ and its innkeeper, George Pennington, quickly grew in reputation and influence, a personality to behold at the helm of what became Windsor’s oldest inn.

In 1656 he issued a half penny token bearing the image of a mermaid and he went on to hold great stature in the town.

Times were turbulent and under George Pennington’s direction the Mermaid Inn continued to make a mark on Windsor, brewing its own beer and cider.

In the mid 1700’s its new inn keeper, Richard Martin, postmaster of Windsor and Hackney man to his Majesty, received his first Royal Warrant and the inn became an official posting inn.

After a century of success it eventually became known as the ‘Castle Inn’ and by the end of the 18th Century, was regarded as one of the finest inns in town, a reputation it ensues today.

Today its strong personality and fascinating history are subtly woven throughout the hotel and the footprints left by the guests over the centuries are palpable.

A classic and elegant Georgian building is the main bearer of the hotel’s history, location, prestige and style through time; both charmingly weathered and discerningly refined whilst simpler yet stylish and authentic surroundings provide a reminder of its busy stables and post horses days.

As with every MGallery hotel, the Castle Hotel, tells a story and invites guests to take a walk through time.

The property’s progressive heritage is elegantly blended with beautifully designed furnishings to evoke milestones of the innkeepers who have resided there.

The history, personality and story of the hotel is evident throughout the design – echoes of the past are reflected in modern design features, each a symbol of its longevity.

Chambermaid bells elegantly staged in the hotel’s restaurant mark the first of a series of carefully crafted details throughout the hotel which provide guests with a glimpse back over 500 years of history, experiences and traditions.

Castle Hotel’s understated yet luxurious rooms include five exquisite suites named after royal warrant holders, which feature plush bedding, bathrooms rich in indulgence, a beautiful reading corner and quirky references to the five royal warrant holders whom are woven throughout the property’s history.

Guests also have the pleasure of observing Windsor’s Changing of the Guards, a great British tradition that truly allows them to experience the real Windsor from the charming comfort of their room or an intimate seat in the beautiful British Lounge.

Should visitors wish to explore beyond the hotel’s walls, the charm and character of Windsor and the historic high street on which the hotel is located is but steps away.

The quaint cobbled streets of the market town paint a picture of the property’s history whilst popular attractions such as Windsor Castle, Savill Garden, Legoland and Ascot are located nearby.
