Flights hit by air traffic control strike in Italy

Airlines using Italian airspace face disruption today as air traffic controllers walk out on strike.

Flight cancellations have also been confirmed by airline in the UK, with controllers downing tools from 12:00-16:00 GMT.

Eurocontrol reported that airspace over Milan, Rome and Brindisi would be affected by the industrial action.

A release from British Airways said: “We have proactively re-timed some services to avoid the four-hour strike period, but regrettably we have been forced to cancel a small number of flights.

“We will be using larger aircraft where possible to re-accommodate customers whose original flights have been cancelled as a result of the strikes.”
