Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has announced that the Rosewood Edinburgh, the company’s fourth property in Europe, is scheduled to open in 2018. The hotel will be housed in the former Royal High School, a historic, landmark building on Calton Hill in the center of the Scottish capital.
Designed by architect Thomas Hamilton and completed in 1829, the neoclassical building is widely considered to be one of the best examples of Greek revival architecture, Rosewood said. Award-winning Scottish architect Gareth Hoskins will restore the building, which has been vacant for nearly 50 years. The hotel will offer 147 guestrooms, as well as public spaces with panoramic views over Edinburgh.
Amenities will include three restaurants and bars, a Sense spa, fitness center and indoor swimming pool. In addition, event spaces and meeting rooms will include a 3,200-square-foot ballroom.
