Princess Cruises has announced a new themed cruise, North to Alaska. This new cruise gives guests a chance to experience the local Alaska through eating local food and participating in activities and entertainment inspired by Alaskan heritage.

The chefs on the cruise have been specially trained to prepare Alaskan seafood and guests will be served King Crab, King Salmon and Halibut. Princess has also partnered with popular local restaurants and will serve crab cakes from Tracy’s King Crab Shack in Juneau, fish tacos from Ketchikan’s Alaska Fish House and the Mermaid Burger from Skagway Fish Company.

As a bonus, the first-place dish from the 2014 Great Alaska Seafood Cook-off will be available in the main dining rooms. Chef Travis Haugen created the winning dish, pan-seared Alaskan salmon with vegetable hash and mushroom tea.

Passengers will also get a sneak peak into local Alaskan’s lives. Guest speakers, including Captain Davis Lethin, from “The Deadliest Catch”, will be invited onboard to tell guests about his adventures fishing for crab in the Bering Sea. Cruise-goers will also hear about the history of logging in Alaska from a local lumberjack and participate in an axe-throwing contest. There will also be experiences for children — like panning for gold.

In addition, there will be sled-racing presentations, traditional Alaskan dance shows and a “Midnight Sun” deck party to celebrate the Alaskan sun that shines all day.

The cruise runs 10 to 15 nights with multiple nights at Glacier Bay National Park and Denali National Park.
