On January 20, John Jenkins, general manager of the Queen Mary, will host a reception at the New York Yacht Club to announce plans for a new San Francisco museum and learning center dedicated to the historic ship.
The project is to launch in 2016. In the meantime, the Queen Mary will feature a Ship Model Gallery dedicated to the upcoming initiative with a 20-foot original Bassett-Lowke model (a loan from the South Street Seaport Museum) as its centerpiece. The model and its history will be presented by South Street Seaport Museum interim president, Jonathan Boulware at the NYYC event.
