Recently guests aboard National Geographic Endeavour got the chance to view the long-dormant Wolf Volcano as it erupted in the Galapagos Islands.

The Lindblad Expeditions ship had diverted from its itinerary to view the eruption. As the ship reached 800 yards from the coast, the foremost section of the lava flow reached the ocean. For the next two hours the ship and its guests stayed and watched as more and more of the flow reached the sea, and more billowing clouds rose in the air.

The volcano began erupting for the first time in 33 years on May 25. The volcano is on the northern tip of Isabela Island, the largest in the archipelago.
