Norwegian ExperiencesAs part of its Norwegian Experience Tours, Hurtigruten will be offering three September sailings for guests to discover the history and culture of Norway.

Dr. Terje I. Leiren, Professor of Scandinavian Studies and History at the University of Washington in Seattle, will be leading excursions and lectures as part of the package.

On September 2, the seven-day “Viking Coast” trip departs from Bergen en route to Kierkenes. On the way, guests will tour Trondheim, have the option to participate in a traditional Viking feast inside a reconstructed longhouse with a chieftain and his family, attend on-board lectures entitled “Who Were the Vikings” and “Viking Religion and Society” and view documentary films, including The History Channel‘s “Vikings: Fury from the North.”

The September 7 departure of the eight-day “Heroes of WWII” is timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. Starting with a walking tour in Kierkenes that includes visits to intact anti-aircraft bunkers and the Borderland Museum, guests will continue the journey with activities including a private tour of the Lofoten Museum and lectures entitled “Norway, Neutral and Invaded” and “The Norwegian Resistance to German Occupation” as well as on-board films.

A longer 13-day “Norwegian Experience” (which combines the two aforementioned experiences) departs September 2, sailing roundtrip from Bergen.
