The Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire, has appointed Paul Heery – formerly of The Connaught, London – as its new hotel general manager.
Heery, originally from Ireland, will join the AA Five Red Star resort later this month.
His experience includes roles at The Merrion Hotel in Dublin, and Ritz Carlton properties in Washington DC, New York and California.
Most recently he was hotel operations manager at the Connaught Hotel, London.
The appointment is the first time in around 30 years that the general manager has been recruited externally, with a candidate that has never worked at Gleneagles before.

Bernard Murphy, the resort’s current general manager, will remain at Gleneagles in his new positon of managing director, effective January 2015.
He will continue his various roles as chairman of the Connoisseur Scotland Group (a marketing consortium for luxury tourism properties); Hospitality Industry Trust Scotland trustee and board member of the International Leadership School in Scotland.
Murphy commented: “On behalf of everyone at the resort, I am truly delighted to welcome Paul to Gleneagles.
“He brings with him a wealth of experience in world leading service, gained in properties which share our passion for creating unforgettable guest experiences.
“I look forward to working with Paul to drive standards of service here at Gleneagles ever-higher, and know that he will be a very valuable addition to the team.”
