American Cruise Lines announces the successful launching of its newest paddlewheeler America three weeks ahead of schedule. America is being built for the Mississippi River at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland. The launching occurred this morning and now America in the Chesapeake Shipbuilding East outfitting basin. This is where the upper decks and outfitting will be completed.
Upon completion this will be the third new riverboat built for the Mississippi River by American Cruise Lines. Construction of the new Queen of the Mississippi is also underway and is slated to sail 2017.
America will be able to carry 185 passengers and is all American-built with an American crew. It will begin sailing the Mississippi next spring.
