Today, Oscar Perez, Puerto Vallarta’s director of tourism, Enrique Ramos Flores, the minister of tourism for the state of Jalisco and Rodrigo Esponda, the director of the Mexican Tourism Board for North America met with Michele Paige, president of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), and representatives from leading cruise lines including Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Carnival and Disney to discuss how to enhance operations in Puerto Vallarta.
Another aim of the meeting was to discuss ways in which the destination and the cruise lines can improve communications. The overall goal is to give cruise lines real time updates about the popular port city and to increase security at the marina. The increased security will be implemented to ensure the cruise lines know the whereabouts of all passengers who go ashore. Puerto Vallarta will communicate with local tour operators and taxi drivers to inform cruise ships of their passengers’ location. Of those who disembark cruise ships in in Puerto Vallarta, 65 percent visit the destination unescorted.
