Hanalei Bay Resort on Kaui recently announced the completion of a major upgrade of its tennis facility with the resurfacing of all eight of its tennis courts.
Overlooking Hanalei Bay on Kauai’s north shore, the tennis facility is already well known as one of the most scenic places to play tennis in Hawaii.
Four of the courts have been converted to Nova Pro Court XP synthetic grass which offers players the comfort of a softer surface and a medium speed of play. A sand infill allows players to slide into shots, similar to a clay court.
“The response from our members and guests has been fantastic already,” said Corley Ward, Hanalei Bay Resort’s tennis director from Peter Burwash International, in a written release. “The sudden cloudbursts that can take place on the north shore no longer means cancellation of tennis, just a short delay. We are really excited about offering more programs and hosting tournaments with this fantastic new facility.”
As an added benefit one can play soon after a heavy rain and even during a light sprinkle without worrying about the court being too slippery. For players who prefer a traditional hard court, the remaining four courts were resurfaced in blue and green acrylic, same surface as the U.S. Open facility in New York.
“Tennis has become a vital and integral component at Hanalei Bay Resort,” said Scott Pacer, general manager for Hanalei Bay Resort. “We have already developed excellent activity and programs with PBI over the past three years and the new courts will mean a higher quality experience for everyone.”
