Uniworld attributes ‘Tolstoy effect’ to increase in Russia cruise bookings

The Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection has experienced a significant increase in sales for its Russia product over the past month.

Booking for this year for the Imperial Waterways of Russia cruise itinerary has more than doubled in comparison with 2015, just one month into the New Year.

The popularity of BBC One’s adaptation of Tolstoy’s War and Peace is likely linked to the current travel trend.

The opulent beauty of Russia and its capital St Petersburg have been cast in the most glorious light through dazzling palaces, mansions and museums.

Kathryn Beadle, managing director of Uniworld UK, commented: “As we have seen our Russia cruise booking numbers jump significantly since the beginning of the year, it is clear the ‘Tolstoy effect’ is a leading contributor to this British travel trend.

“Uniworld provides guests with the opportunity to experience Russia in all its opulent glory on our 13 day river cruise on-board the luxurious River Victoria ship.”

Uniworld’s 13 day Imperial Waterways of Russia river cruise begins in the grand city of Moscow and travels through Russia’s vast and beautiful countryside and delightful small towns.

Guests will cruise along the Golden Ring to some of Russia’s most beautiful cities, including Uglich and Yaroslavl, known for their white-stone churches and gorgeous monasteries.

On arrival in St Petersburg, guests will be wowed by the breath-taking beauty of the enchanting city.

Explore Tolstoy’s setting for War and Peace with Uniworld featured excursions to Catherine Palace, the summer residence of the tsars, and the candy-coloured State Hermitage Museum which was formerly the Winter Palace of the tsars.
