Without even trying, you may snag a front row seat to Art By Chance, a short-film festival that screens worldwide and starts today. More than 200 cities in 20-plus countries will show works in public spaces usually reserved for advertising—think airports, train and bus stations, billboards in plazas, and more. This is its fifth edition, and there will be 25 films lasting just half a minute inspired by the theme “Discover.”

“The selection of films was a unique mix of some of the most creative and experimental short-form storytelling from around the globe,” says Ryan Harrington, vice president of artist programs for the Tribeca Film Institute, and a member of Art By Chance’s jury.

“Bold themes such as love, life, environment, self-reflection and discovering the great world around us emerged from this year’s group.” The festival runs through February 15, and a full schedule is listed here.
