UNUSUAL CONFERENCE VENUE – A REVAMPED POWER PLANT

One of the most unusual venues where large events can be hosted was recently opened in Tallinn, Estonia. Named Tallinn Creative Hub, the conference venue is actually a revamped historic power plant from 1934.

Located in the center of the city, the venue is just walking distance away from major hotels. As such it is likely to become very popular among event organizers. It has been already booked for four international conferences to be held in 2016, according to Kadri Karu, the managing director from the Estonian Convention Bureau.

The bricks, boilers and everything else have been well preserved. The power plant which represents the industrial architecture of the early 20th century supplied power to the central parts of the city during the period 1913 to 1979. The construction of the limestone building was completed in 1934 and the two huge boilers located within the hall were erected in 1948 and 1949 respectively. Out of the 10 boilers of the power plant, these are the only two remaining now.

In Estonian, the conference venue’s name translates to the ‘Culture Cauldron’ as the boiler room of the erstwhile power plant has been converted into the largest conference space to accommodate as many as 500 persons.

Ms. Karu said that Tallinn Creative Hub will add on a large conference space to those that are already there. She also added that foreigners who visited the venue have given rave reviews about it.

The most prominent feature of the conference space Cauldron Hall is the presence of two giant boilers. The hall with its high ceilings offers 700 square meters for conducting events like exhibitions, galas, concerts and seminars, among others. The smaller events space, Black Box, has an area of 504 square meters and it has a seating capacity of more than 400, depending on how the seats are arranged. In addition, the conference venue offers a number of breakout rooms as well.
