The prices for purchasing and maintenance of cars in Germany decreased in the annual average of 2014 compared to the previous year by 0.8 percent.
From the drivers’ point of view, this encouraging development can be accounted to the significant decline in fuel prices. The price for fuel decreased in the annual average compared to 2013 by 4.4 percent. However, the general living cost has increased by 0.9 percent over the last year.
Experts await increased amount of domestic travelers opting for cars when going on holidays. Business travel around Germany is also likely to be cheaper thanks to lower prices of fuel.
This is the result of the current drivers’ price index which is published quarterly by the ADAC and the German Federal Statistics Office. All indices were set to the base number 100 in the year 2010. Since then, the price for driving a car increased 2.4 percent, the living cost of all private households increased by 6.7 percent.
The comparison of inflation rates of December 2014 with the previous year’s months is even more obvious. The drivers’ price index was 3.3 percent lower than in December 2013.
As expected, this was due to the massive decrease in fuel prices. Gasoline and Diesel decreased between December 2013 and December 2014 by 12.1 percent and are with 97.5 points even 2.5 percent cheaper than in the base year 2010.
