A new concept store brings together the best of the city’s homegrown talent.
The Argentinean economy may be shaky, but that didn’t prevent the opening last month of Casa Cavia, a high-design store that draws from the most sought-after ateliers, studios, and kitchens in Buenos Aires. Founder Lupe García—whose brother, Juan García Mosqueda, is behind New York emporium Chamber—invited her illustrious friends to set up shop in the intimate rooms and courtyard garden of an impeccably refurbished 1927 mansion in Palermo Chico. Pablo Massey, a protégé of Francis Mallmann, handles the Euro-Argentinean cuisine at La Cocina, while Julián Bedel has a light-filled atelier for his exotic Fueguia 1833 fragrances. The bar, patisserie, bookstore, and florist are similarly well-pedigreed. “We didn’t want this to just be a destination for eating and shopping,” García says. Rather, it’s a microcosm of the best of B.A. now.
