Guests of the Iberostar Playacar hotel were evacuated when a fire consumed several public areas on the property this past weekend.

Today, Iberostar released the following statement:

“On Saturday, October 10, a fire occurred in isolated areas at the Iberostar Tucan and Iberostar Quetzal hotels. Initial findings point to the fire being caused by an electrical short circuit in the lobby area. The areas affected by the fire include the lobby, Italian restaurant and buffet; all other areas, including rooms, were not affected.

We have immediately begun recovery efforts in the affected areas and will be able to fully assess the damages within one week. Our goal is to have the hotels fully operational by mid-December, and once completed, our guests will enjoy newly renovated areas, and can expect as always, our award-winning excellence in service and quality.”
