Hundreds evacuated as fire breaks out on Korean Air plane in Tokyo

Hundreds of passengers have been evacuated from a plane in Tokyo after a fire broke out in its left engine.

Korean Air flight 2708 was taxiing on the runway at Haneda Airport when the fire broke out.

Firefighters sprayed the engine with foam on the runway, which was temporarily closed.

A total of 302 people were evacuated from the B777-300, with no reports of injuries.

Some 16 staff were also believed to be on board.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Passengers on the flight are expected to be boarded on an alternative flight from Haneda Airport at 20:46 local time, arriving at original destination Gimpo Airport in Korea at 22:50.
