British Airways plane struck by drone on Heathrow approach

Police in the UK have launched an investigation after a passenger plane on approach to London Heathrow Airport struck what is believed to be a drone.

The British Airways was hit on Sunday afternoon as it arrived from Geneva.

The Airbus A320 had 132 passengers and five crew on board.

There are no reports of any injuries.

If confirmed, it would be the first such incident in the UK.

BA said it would give the police “every assistance with their investigation”.

The Metropolitan Police’s aviation security unit based at Heathrow will lead the investigation, with no arrests made.

A BA spokesman said: “Our aircraft landed safely, was fully examined by our engineers and it was cleared to operate its next flight.”
