Executives from Genting Hong Kong and Meyer Werft have celebrated the laying of the keel of Genting Dream, Dream Cruises’ new ship, at a special commemoration held at the shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
A significant milestone in a vessel’s timeline, this traditional ceremony marks the formal recognition of the start of a new ship’s construction.
“We are extremely excited to officially lay the first section of Dream Cruises’ new ship, Genting Dream,” said, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, chairman, Genting Hong Kong.
“Genting Dream will set new standards at every level – from its quality construction and detailed design, to best in class service and a diversity of entertainment, dining, leisure and recreation options, for a truly unforgettable guest experience.”
During the official ceremony, block number two, one of 92 blocks that will eventually complete the 151,000 tonnage ship, was lifted into the building dock to officially start the block assembly for Genting Dream.
In keeping with tradition, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay laid the customary “lucky coin” as a symbol of good fortune under the keel block of the new vessel to bless the ship.
When completed, Genting Dream will be among the biggest and most spacious cruise ships in the world offering a broad range of guest comfort levels with extensive, balcony suite accommodations ranging between 32-53 square meters and with over 70 per cent of staterooms containing private balconies.
More than 100 connecting rooms will ensure that family vacations have never been more convenient.
The 2,000-strong crew – a planned ratio of one crew member to every 1.7 guests – will be recruited carefully to deliver the very best service in the hospitality world and carry on Genting Hong Kong’s tradition of delivering the epitome of the finest Asian Hospitality.
Foodies will delight in over 35 restaurants and bars capturing the flavours of the world and a 610 meter wrap around promenade will allow for fantastic seaside dining and lounging from sunrise to sunset in a multitude of themed venues.
With Genting Dream, Dream Cruises will offer a state of the art ship purpose built for Asia that will take the concept of service to a new level.
