Icy Strait Point, a cruise destination in Hoonah, Alaska, has announced a new renovation project beginning this summer, which will add a new 400-foot floating pier.
As the only private large-ship docking point in the state, the new pier will facilitate direct docking for large cruise ships and give guests and crewmembers easy access to the shore.
In addition to the new pier, Icy Strait Point’s renovation project will include a Tlingit-style, wood-beamed welcome center and a new voyage departure lounge for cruise ship guests to visit during the season.
Icy Strait Point offers a variety of activities for visitors. Guests can ride the ZipRider Zipline, where they will get panoramic views of Port Frederick, Icy Strait Point and docked cruise ships. Visitors can also shop at over 10 different stores that sell Alaskan souvenirs, fine clothing and more.
The renovations will not disrupt current travelers over the summer season and are expected to be completed by October 2015.
